A session log should answer a support question quickly
The purpose of a PPPoE session log is not to collect data for its own sake. Support teams need to know when the subscriber was online, when a session ended, which router or POP handled the connection and whether the customer account state changed around the same time.
Keep timestamps and network ownership clear
Accurate connection and disconnection times are more useful when they are paired with the relevant router, POP and subscriber identity. That context makes it easier to distinguish a billing event from a network-side event.
Separate current status from historical evidence
An online badge tells you what is happening now. Session history helps explain what happened earlier. Both views are useful, especially when a customer reports intermittent disconnections.
Connect billing state without confusing cause and correlation
A package expiry or account action may happen near a session change, but support staff should still be able to inspect the timeline rather than assume every disconnect is caused by billing.
Use logs responsibly
Session and customer activity information should be visible only to authorized roles, retained according to operational need and protected as business data.
Use your own ISP workflow as the test case.
